Floriginals All Style Jam A New Era for St. Louis Dance

On April 30, 2021, history was made at The Luminary on Cherokee. In the wake of COVID-19, St. Louis' dance scene had quieted, battles were scarce, and the energy that once fueled cyphers and competitions was fading. That’s when Dominick “Domo Fresh” Hines saw an opportunity. With just one week of planning, Domo launched Floriginals All Style Jam—an event designed to bring dancers together, no matter their style, under one rule: adapt to the DJ’s music, or forfeit your turn.

The event wouldn’t have been possible without Aaron Fowler, an artist in residence at The Luminary during his show N2Existence. Seeing the vision for the battle, he offered the space, giving dancers a place to reclaim their culture and movement.

What started as an idea quickly turned into a packed event full of raw energy, cyphers, and unforgettable battles. Since that night, Floriginals has continued to grow, pushing the boundaries of what an all-styles battle can be. What began as a necessity for the scene has now become a movement shaping the future of St. Louis dance.
